Geneva Convention

Did you know that the Geneva Conventions have been around for over 150 years? Their history isn't very long but its impact is amazing. They have saved many lives in armed conflicts and will save more. The Geneva Conventions are the most important treaties ever made

The Geneva  Conventions have a very important role. They are a list of laws or rules for armed conflicts. There are four of these conventions, each adopted at their own time. These rules give protection to military chaplains , medical personnel, civilians and wounded soldiers, but what do these statements actually state to protect people?

The Geneva Conventions say many things. One of the articles state that you may not destroy a potential dangerous object and only capture it. Several of the articles state that if there is the international red cross on it, you may not shoot it. Also, since the red cross is a sign humanitarian service you cannot use it for deception.

The history of Geneva conventions are very interesting. The first ten articles were adopted in 1864. That means that some of these articles have been around for nearly 150 years! After ward the second set of articles or the second Geneva convention were added in 1909. Twenty years later, the third treaty was added. Then in after World War II, in 1949 the fourth and final treaty was added.

The Geneva Conventions add a bit of order to the insanity called  war. We should be thankful that these exist otherwise the world would be a  gigantic battlefield. Because of the constantly evolving nature of warfare, we should adopt another convention to protect civilians against terrorism.

George Washington

George Washington was an amazing person.  He had many jobs and was very unique personality. What makes him amazing is his service as president and being General of the Armies or a six star general. George Washington is the most influential person in history.

George Washington was many things before his presidency. When he was 16 and still young he was the surveyor of Culpeper, Fredrick and Augusta Counties which is currently located in Virginia. After his father and half brother died he was in charge of Mount Vernon and became a farmer and a land owner. After the death of his half brother he was enrolled in the military and tried to join the British army several times but all were rejected. He was pulled out several times due to illness but he rejoined every time. After achieving the rank of Brigadier General he resigned from serving and continue his work on Mount Vernon and married Martha Dandridge. He and his wife had two children and adopted two of his stepchildren’s children who both died before or during the Revolutionary War

George Washington was a very ambitious and dedicated man. All he wanted to do in life was be a farmer but when duty called he stepped to the challenge but right after his goes straight back to being a farmer. He didn’t want to shape history at all actually.

George Washington is greatly known for his service in the Revolutionary War. He was appointed by congress at the time to do three important jobs. One was he had to train the colonists to be soldiers. The most important job was being a symbol of the revolution itself. He stood as a figure that kept the patriots on track to achieving the ultimate goal of independence. His final job was his position as a general. He fought against the British forces head on and never surrendered his men during a battle. He may have retreated or won but he never gave in to the enemy.
George Washington was a great person. I don’t know what our country would be like be like if never did what he did. He inspired and influenced decisions that impacted history greatly just by the actions he preformed themselves. There is no person that I know of that shaped history like George Washington did.

Impressionism

Did you know that most of the art you see is actually impressionism? The reason is that people want things to be realistic  and impressionism is quite realistic. All it is is a product of a positivist thinking as evidenced by the examination of light. impressionism is the most realistic form of art in the world.

The beginnings of this form of art is a bit complex. During the middle of the nineteenth century, académie des beaux-artswas the main form of art in france. These pieces were displayed in a show called the Salon de Paris. In 1863, Manet, a famous impressionist submitted a piece of art called The Luncheon the Grass. However the judges rejected the painting because it was a realistic nude painting in a contemporary setting. After seeing the rejected piece, Emperor Nepolean III decreed that the public was allowed to judge the artwork, called the Salon de refuses or salon of the refused. Later on, the Salon of the Refused became the expedition of the impressionists.

There are quite a few techniques used in impressionism. For example, to emphasize the essence of an object, the artist uses light strokes. Also the artists try to prevent mixing the colors by painting side by side the colors to create a vibrant surface. Impressionists prevent themselves from using gray tones and black but use contemporary colors to create that effect instead

There are only a few impressionists. The most famous of the impressionists is Claude Monet. Mary Cassatt was born American but participated in 4 impressionist expiditions. Others include Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Impressionism wasn't accepted in its beginnings, but now it is well repsected now. Let us respect it for here on out. Impressionism is an amazing and innovative form of art.

Dragons

Author's Note: Today I am writing about dragons. I chose this topic because I believe that they are amazing creatures. I was focusing on organization in this piece. Please comment so I could improve and become a better writer.

Dragons, what are they? Peaceful creatures that have no reason to interact with us, or are they keepers of peace and bring good and justice to land or are they evil creatures that wish to bring destruction, famine and death to all that it sees. Whatever they may be they are fascinating organisms and have made their mark in history. Dragons are some of the most fascinating and mysterious creatures in the world.

Many origins of dragons come from ancient civilization’s mythology. In the northern sky you can see the constellation draco which is a dragon. In china the dragon was considered an imperial animal and was in the designs of the emperor’s clothes. They were said to have the ability to control water therefore determining the future of the ancient Chinese people. Also in the medieval times in Europe they were on the symbol for countries as a sign of power and strength. It is not a coincidence that these two civilizations believed the same animal, the thing is that they imagined dragons differently.

Over the course of history dragons have been given many forms. Near China dragons were imagined as streamline creatures with scales that had multiple sets of legs and arms. But in Europe the dragons were serpentine or reptilian creatures with 2 arms and legs or 4 legs and no arms and wings. Also dragons could shot scorching flames from their mouth.

Even though it has been many centuries since medieval times and the ancient Chinese empire dragons are still remembered and have earned a place in pop culture. Many video games that include fighting with swords and such dragons are chosen as bosses due to the fabled power. There are some books like Dragon Rider and the Eragon series that include multiple dragons. Movies sometimes even have dragons in them like Eragon, How to Train your Dragon, and Shrek too.

Dragons are quite intriguing animals. They are kinder than you and I yet more furious than any army known to man. They will continue to be an influence on people for time to come. In the past people were fascinated by them and they will continue to for the time to come.

Thanksgiving Break

Author's Note: Today I am writing about my Thanksgiving break. The reason is just so I could just talk about what I did. I don't I was focusing on anything and it was just for fun. Please comment.

This Thanksgiving break was a blast. First of all the turkey day dinner was amazing. I ate a whole turkey leg and some mashed potatoes. During dinner we laughed and talked about stuff. Afterward we cleaned up the dishes and the pans. Afterwards we watched football till my grandparents left.

The other thing that was great was that due to conflicts next weekend we set up all of our Christmas decorations this weekend and the tree. To finish things of we turned off all the lights and listened to music and looked at the Christmas tree until I went to bed. I wish it was longer but that’s that and I am hyped for winter break to come.

Majyk books 1 and 2 response

Author’s Note: Just recently I have finished the second book in a series that I am reading: Majyk. The title of the book is Flyte and I am starting the third book Physik. I am not the best at writing responses so please give me feedback.

Septimus Heap, the greatest wizard or the greatest failure? Whatever he is, he is the center of all that happens, and everything is somehow related to his actions. One bit of information that still seems a mystery is the first ten years and other increments skipped between books of Septimus Heap’s life and other traits that seem unusual about him.

One point is the trademark attributes that he has. We all know that Harry Potter has the lightning bolt shaped scar and for you dragon enthusiasts, Eragon has that weird marking on his hand. Unusually, Septimus is that he has several special attributes. Some are the dragon ring, a dragon that was hatched by him, and an ancient and very powerful charm, the gold and silver flyte charm. To me it seems like he is a bit too special and could have had less.

Another issue is the first ten years of his life. At the beginning of the first book, a nursemaid proclaims him dead. And he is wrapped in bandages. Then later on in the book, he is called Boy 412 since he is in the young army for the majority of the book. Then suddenly he becomes Septimus at the end of the first book. Was the nursemaid just trying to get him in the young army or was he actually not breathing for an extended amount time?

The last topic is the plot. Right now it seems as if all the books after Majyk are just major events after the first book. They don't develop the plot further, and it seems as if they are back to normal life. What I am hoping for is that in the fourth, fifth and sixth book, they advance the plot and not just address little issues in their daily life. I appreciate that in book two one of Septimus’s brothers becomes an antagonist.

Septimus is a great character and all, but he seems quite questionable in his past and his characteristics. Also the plot seems questionable also but like Septimus, it is great. Honestly the book could definitely been written better and as always, it is still great.

Warehouse 13 episode response

Review of Warehouse 13 episode insatiable

Yesterday I watch a new episode of my dad and my favorite show Warehouse 13. It is about these people who are secret agents how deal with artifacts that cause trouble like make buildings collapse or turn people into clay.

This episode was about an artifact that causes people to get very cold and have a desire to flesh. So basically it turns them into zombies. Meanwhile one of the warehouse agents tries to contact their former partner. Somehow one the investigating agent comes in contact with the artifact.

The show started up last year during the summer and we started watching it on the 2nd episode. At the end of the last season warehouse agent Myka left because she thought that she nearly put the entire world to danger and never wanted to do that again. The thing was that the beginning of this season she rejoins since she hates not having action all day.

Tomorrow will be the two hour finale and I can’t wait. The preview said that one of their former agents will betray them and try to assassinate them or something like that. The show is funny and great. You never know what will happen in the series next so you want to keep on watching.
